What is the claim limit in the Alberta Court of Justice?

The Alberta Court of Justice hears civil claims of up to $100,000. Larger claims are generally heard in the Court of King's Bench of Alberta.

Is there a deadline to start a lawsuit in Alberta?

Yes. Under Alberta's Limitations Act, most claims must be started within two years of when you knew, or should have known, about the claim. Deadlines can be strict, so get advice early.

Can my dispute be resolved without going to court?

Often, yes. Many disputes settle after a well-prepared demand letter, negotiation or mediation. We always consider whether an early resolution is in your interest.

What should I bring to our first meeting?

Any contracts, invoices, emails, texts, photos and a short timeline of events. The more we can see, the clearer our assessment will be.

How much will it cost?
